Minister of Gender Backs Skills, Fashion Programme for Incarcerated Women

Freetown, April 28, 2026 (SLENA)- Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs (MoGCA) reaffirmed commitment to rehabilitation and inclusion through a transformative initiativeempowerand girls in conflict with law.

Hon. Minister Dr. Isata Mahoi spoke at recent engagement, emphasizing that women inside correctional facilities deserve dignity, opportunity, and access to life-changing skills. She highlighted fashion and creative arts as powerful tools for empowerment, enabling beneficiaries to rebuild confidence, develop economic independence, and reintegrate into society with renewed purposes.

This initiative, organized by Isha Johansen, forms part broader national effort to empower, reform, and rehabilitate women and girls within correctional centers. It underscores growing importance partnerships between government and private stakeholders addressing social inclusion and restorative justice.

Minister Mahoi outlined key government reforms focused on strengthening institutional support systems, expanding vocational and skills training access, improving welfare conditions, and ensuring protection for incarcerated women and girls. She stressed that these measures remain essential to leaving no individual behind, regardless of their circumstances.

The Ministry reiterated unwavering dedication to creating opportunities for all women and girls to thrive, noting initiatives like this serve as a foundation for a more inclusive society where second chances receive not just possibility but active support
