Mrs. Aminata Y. Sannoh, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs, is a civil servant with over 18 years of experience in public service. Her expertise spans administration and management to the development and execution of Government Policies. Mrs. Sannoh joined the Sierra Leone Civil Service in 2006 as an Administrative Officer (Cadet). She was then assigned to the former Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs (Gender Division).
Subsequently, she was confirmed and promoted to Senior Assistant Secretary (SAS). She spent a significant period in this Ministry, which provided her with a strong foundation and a deeper understanding of the government’s operations and structures.
Because of her commitment and professionalism, she was assigned to the then National Ebola Response Centre (NERC) from August 2014 to December 2015, serving in various capacities as Administrative Officer, Special Assistant to the National Operations Coordinator, and Office Support Manager, respectively. She coordinated the smooth operation of the Units within NERC and contributed to the efficient functioning of the Office of the National Operations Coordinator and the Centre in general. She exhibited proficiency in executive support.
From the then Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs, she progressed through various Ministries and Departments, serving as Senior Assistant Secretary and Deputy Secretary in the then Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security (MAFFS). She also served as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) until her promotion and postings to the Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) in June 2024, where she spent a brief two-month tenure as Acting Executive Secretary (at the rank of Permanent Secretary). During her time at LGSC, she performed administrative duties, regulating and providing policy guidelines in line with the Policies, Rules, and Regulations governing the operations of the Commission and the Local Councils. Her brief stint at the Local Government Service Commission further enriched her experience in public service.
Mrs. Sannoh returned to the current Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs in August 2024 to serve as Permanent Secretary, a position she has held to date. Her professionalism and esteemed character have led her to key leadership roles. As the Permanent Secretary, she plays a vital role in the Ministry. She manages the daily operations of the Ministry. Since assuming her duties, she has taken on a leadership role in policy directives and the implementation of the Ministry’s activities. She provides administrative leadership, implements policies, and coordinates the daily operations of the ministry. She oversees policy execution, planning, and the coordination of gender and children’s programmes.
Mrs. Sannoh has a Bachelor of Arts (General) in English and Sociology from the Fourah Bay College (FBC), University of Sierra Leone, a Diploma in Social Work and Psychological Care, Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM), University of Sierra Leone, and a Master’s in Public Administration from Njala University. She has also participated in leadership training in the Service.
She has committed to elevating women’s and children’s rights across Sierra Leone. She continues to serve as a pivotal figure in shaping and executing Sierra Leone’s gender, women’s empowerment, and child welfare agenda, striving for a more equitable and violence-free society.
